During this busy time of a student's life, a lot of questions about the SAT and ACT come up. Here are answers to some of the most common ones.

Historically tutors used to recommend the SAT to students that were focused on strategy and the ACT to students that had more content knowledge (ex. science, history, math). Also, the timing on the ACT is more strict so tutors would recommend the SAT to students that consistently had a hard time finishing on time.

Although this advice may work for some, it doesn’t work for all and it can even jeopardize some students scores. The best thing to do is have your student take a practice exam for both and see on which exam their percentile is higher. The exams are written very differently and this is the best way to determine with what style they feel more comfortable.

When should my child take the SAT or ACT?

The answer is as soon as possible. From experience, the students that perform best are those that take our classes as freshman or sophmores. They typically get the highest SAT/ACT scores and win the most scholarships. This is because they have more time to perfect their test taking skills (in a stress-free environment) and also have more time to apply for scholarships. It’s important to remember that the deadline to become a PSAT National Merit Finalist (which equates to over $100,000+ in scholarship money) is October of your child’s Junior year. We have a a lot of students that work with us to win this money and much, much more.

However, every student is different. We’ve had some students that prep freshman year and take it at the beginning of their sophomore year and do amazing and we’ve also have students that take it their senior year right before Early Decision deadlines and do just as well. Since high school doesn’t teach for the SAT or ACT the main determining factor should be free time and preparing in as much of a stress-free enviroment as possible. Community service projects, extracurriculars, and prom all happen during the end of a students high school career so in many cases it makes more sense to get the exam out of the way earlier.

When should my child take an Amikka Learning Prep Course?

Our average course length is 8 weeks. We recommend that students take it 8 to 12 weeks before the exam so that they don’t lose the test taking stamina they build with our program before the real exam day. We meet with our students twice a week for two hours and every other weekend for four hours to for them to take a timed practice exam under real conditions.

How Do Online Classes Work?

Our online classes are taught in a virtual classroom. The instructor is live and the student can view both the instructor and a whiteboard. The student will view the lesson as if they are in a classroom with a teacher at the front of the room with a whiteboard. Students can interact directly with the instructor via audio or webcam (they can choose this setting) and the entire lesson is recorded for future viewing.

Does Amikka offer any Guarantee?

We are so convinced that our product works that we offer 100% money back guarantee. Meaning that if you go through our program and don’t improve your score, you will receive every penny back. This has yet to happen but we feel that it’s only fair to put it out there to be fully clear!

Christopher Hernandez, the founder of Amikka Learning, couldn’t afford expensive SAT tutoring so he spent hundreds of hours studying on his own.

After improving over 400 points and attending an Ivy League school he realized how unfair the playing field was with tutoring: no matter how smart you were, if you couldn’t afford tutoring you were stuck.
His dream was to change this.

He began tutoring for the SAT and quickly realized that he was a gifted tutor. His students were loving his program and improving very fast.

Fast forward 8 years, Amikka is a leader in the education industry and has helped thousands of students get into their dream schools.
